London Power & Light is a “One Stop Energy Shop” that brings an ethical and regulated approach to energy procurement and enables businesses to use less energy and pay less for the energy they do use.

London Power & Light was founded by Peter Sceats, who conceived the index upon which all European coal power stations are valued. Peter set up risk management and trading desks for BHP Billiton, Tradition Group and RWE where he was on the team that valued their acquisition of National Power.

Peter Sceats & Associates ran the European arm of US energy advisor Tradition Energy from 2011 until 2016. Peter Sceats resigned from this contract and his core team (with Denise Marsdon who led the Energy Savings Trust in the Midlands) formed London Power & Light to provide more energy services, to more clients, in more European markets, and at more competitive rates.

Launched exactly 2 years after our related water company LP&L is a division Grand Union Co., we are headquartered in London’s Mayfair in Old Park Lane W1. Our client meeting rooms are at Old Queen Street, Westminster and we have offices in Zug Switzerland and Virginia USA.

The only way to ensure your company has contracted the right energy deal at the best price is to instruct a professional, experienced – completely independent and honest – advisor who understands the market and your energy usage. The tool of choice is a market-wide tender.

That advisor should be able to estimate your all-in total energy budget and charge a single fair and transparent fee for providing these services, which should range from £0.00025 to £0.004 per KWh depending on location, specifics of your spend/site and the services required.

Our regimented and unique tender approach imported from our associated water company is highly efficient, so much so that it is also used as a vehicle to purchase products and services other than energy and water.

Energy Advisor Warning - If your company is using a UK energy advisor to procure electricity, it is highly likely you are being over-charged commission, and if you have empowered a UK energy advisor to buy floating price electricity for your business, it is highly likely the advisor is using your procurement demand to facilitate trading for themselves in the market.

The UK energy advisor space is not – in any way – regulated. The only recourse for a consumer is through the courts.

The London Power & Light founder is a veteran of more than two dozen expert witness appearances and has seen every trick in the UK energy advisor’s book to steal money from consumers.

The chances are you do not even know you are being ripped off by your energy advisor. Call us for a free energy advisor health check with no obligation.

What Is Energy Storage?

Energy Storage is a commercial proposition in its own right, but it additionally facilitates on-site renewable generation which reduces consumption from the grid.

1. Peak Electricity at the Off-Peak Price

Put simply, these factory scale “Rechargeable Batteries for Buildings” load overnight with discount-priced off-peak electricity. It is then used at peak times, thus reducing the amount of premium-priced peak electricity drawn from the grid during the day.

2. Triad (Grid-Stress Charge) Mitigation

Energy Storage can be used as Triad charge mitigation. Triad is the costly and otherwise unavoidable pass-thru charge levied by National Grid essentially to turn on reserve power stations at peak times to balance electricity supply to expected demand.

3. Interactive Mini Power Station

Additionally, Energy Storage can be used in an interactive way to store off-peak electricity and renewable on-site generation, such as solar, to sell power back to the grid at a premium when the National Grid needs balancing power. In this sense, the battery becomes the heart of a mini power station.

4. London Power & Light search market-wide to find the best energy storage and on-site generation solution for your building, as well as the right installation/management partner from our pre-vetted supplier panel.

However your company has chosen to procure energy in the past there should always be room for constructive suggestion as to how it could be better, safer, cheaper, greener, more effective, etc.

We’ll review your current supply arrangements and your advisor contract at no charge and no obligation.

With regards energy storage, there is no need to wait for the technology to mature, it is here now. LiFePO4 (Lithium Ferro-Phosphate) and LiNiMnCoO2 (Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide) batteries are the basis of the “Rechargeable Batteries for Buildings” market and will be for decades to come. Tesla, Nissan and other all-electric cars are becoming commonplace and are a testament to the technology being here now.

The sooner the energy storage solution of choice is in place, the sooner it starts paying for itself and the sooner savings are made. Remember, demand is such that there can be a long lead time between ordering and receiving your battery.

“Your assumptions are your windows on the world. Scrub them off every once in a while, or the light won't come in.”

Isaac Asimov

The management team of London Power & Light have procured energy in 21 different European countries and in the USA with its patchwork of regulated, part-regulated and non-regulated markets.

With regards energy storage, these “Rechargeable Batteries for Buildings” can be deployed in any dual rate country (meaning a country or state having different peak and off-peak prices) and are especially cost-effective where there are additional charges linked to grid-stress or there is Demand Response potential (meaning markets where grids pay for top-up supplies).

Take the GB electricity market as an example. It’s a mess.

The GB advisor space is unregulated, with just a few notable exceptions, it is full of cowboys and charlatans literally stealing money from their clients.

As to the market itself, price-setting ability has been centralised for decades on too few generation companies. Generation company super-profits have been paid away in dividends, fat-cat salaries and exported overseas instead of being reinvested in new power stations, leaving consumer prices among the highest in the world and the country’s national grid stressed every winter.

Resultant “Triad charges” are landing as a plague on British industry. Ofgem and successive governments have handled the electricity market SO badly that the UK taxpayer has had to guarantee a Sino/French JV £92.50 per MWh for 30 years to build a nuclear power station to keep the lights on.

It is time for business consumers to take control of their electricity supply, have a buffer against a poorly run market and even benefit from the situation.

Sensible procurement is THE most important thing for a consumer right now. However going forward, an understanding of how energy storage can enhance and facilitate consumption will be key.

Put simply, procurement services should cost between £0.00025 and £0.004 per KWh depending on location, specifics of your spend/site and the services required.

With regards to energy storage, “Rechargeable Batteries for Buildings” comes in three sizes: let’s call them small, medium and large. Being of modular design, batteries can also be combined to tailor the needs of a specific site.

The prices for batteries and their associated solutions vary greatly and the only way to find the right solution at the best price is by first understanding site usage and needs, and then interrogating all suppliers; turning their offerings into plain English and a common format. The difficulty of this process should not be underestimated.

London Power & Light summarise the results in clear “Return on Investment” format, making ROI the only metric to consider. Unlike the majority of those companies purporting to be energy advisors, London Power & Light levies fees that are modest and crystal clear.

Beyond our pre-agreed and transparent fee there are no hidden commissions or unnecessary complexity. You’ll know exactly where you stand when you trade with us.

The right supply and advisory agreement are the most important things for business consumers, in addition to this we supply:

  • Energy audits to drive consumption reduction,
  • Factory-scale solar, wind, geothermal, CHP and bio-diesel generation solutions made all the more possible by an associated Energy Storage solution
  • Voltage Optimisation
  • LEDs
  • Smart Metering
  • Energy Bill Validation
  • A regimented and unique tender approach which is also used as a vehicle to purchase products and services other than energy and water
  • Referral to the water services of our related water company Grand Union Water Co.

Common sense, logic, a sense of humour and the idea that the client always comes first are provided by our company, free of charge.
